Banana Boat Family Futbol Festival

As a mom to a 1 year old boy, I want my son to play more outside and enjoy nature, sports, and physical activities. Luckily, I am a sporty type of girl and my hubby also enjoys playing basketball and he likes our little boy to be physically active too.

A playdate with other Mommy Bloggers Philippines in Ayala Triangle

Adults and children alike used to have a knack for outdoor activities until gadgets came into the picture when kids may tend to hibernate indoors. This summer, Banana Boat Sunscreen is set to make this season extra fun for you and your family as it partners with Futkal (Futbol sa Kalye), a non-government organization that uses football as a tool for social development.
Banana Boat, in partnership with Futkal, is giving families more reasons to enjoy the outdoors and engage in a more active lifestyle.  Together, they are launching the Banana Boat Family Futbol Festival at the UP Sunken Garden on April 26 from 6am to 5pm.
With this joint activity, families can participate in different fun-filled games and activities under the sun, including a football cup which will require teamwork among the members of the family. Part of its aim includes the showcasing of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participating families.
But families won’t be running alone. Each team will be joined by a Futkalero to take the football game to the next level. Aside from this, a Futkal clinic will be launched during the event to boost children’s interest in the sport and encourage them to have an active lifestyle during their growing up years.

“Family bonding is very important especially in the face of an increasingly digital age. In fact, a Nielsen study revealed that Filipinos are the second heaviest Internet users in Southeast Asia, and we feel that this is contributing to a more sedentary lifestyle. We want family members to reconnect once again in a more meaningful way,” says MJ Tiquia, Product Manager of Banana Boat.
She adds, “By bringing families together outdoors, people will go back to basics.  In the process, we hope to make an active lifestyle fashionable once again.”
But allowing families to engage in outdoor activities need not come at the expense of their skin health. According to Claire Guevarra, Officeu-in-Charge Marketing person of Banana Boat, the family needs protection against the sun’s harmful rays to enjoy summer.
“The outdoors give each family member the opportunity to mingle and be close to one another, but too much exposure to the sun can be bad for the skin,” Guevarra says. “Bearing that in mind, families will need Banana Boat’s sun protection.”
Banana Boat sunscreens come in lotions and sprays that complement your lifestyle. It provides a broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays with AvoTriplex Technology that guards you against the sun’s harmful rays.
“It’s time to break the Internet barrier and go outdoor this summer,” Guevarra concludes. “Along with Futkal, we can create a bigger playing field where families can learn and have fun together outdoors that will translate to lasting memories.”

Event registration for families is free. To join, simply visit the Facebook fanpage and register at https://apps.facebook.com/bananaboatfutkal/ or visit Banana Boat’s website at www.bananaboat.com.ph for more details.

Nagipon Ka, Ngunit Kulang? How to Save, Budget and Invest Wisely

"I take pride in my financial intelligence, I know how to save and I know where I put my hard earned money" - Me, ten years ago.

Well that was when I was in my younger years, during my young professional years when I earned a fairly big enough compensation relative to my needs back then. I started saving since I was in grade school which helped me in some of my expenses or co-curricular needs back then. During my yuppie days, I opened my bank account, saved a little every payday and felt proud of myself. When I got an increase in compensation, I invested a little part of my money. I started investing when I was 25 years old, did not really know much about it but I trusted my agent, I also had a friend who entered into the same investment so I was pretty much secured. I never bothered knowing anything about it, until recently when I was having a hard time paying the annual rate.

You might say, it was great that I started in my mid-20s right? Well, I'd tell you at present I am struggling with managing my finances. A lot of changes happened in the last 5 years and these has taken a toll on my financial intelligence (?) Back when I was still single, my saving and investment practice worked out just perfectly because I did not have a lot of expenses. But now that I have a family, money management is a totally different story.

I did not stop saving and investing even when I got married, but the expenses grew which shook me a little especially when Enzo was born, The expenses did not stop and it just keep coming every month. What was really difficult for me to adjust with is my spending practices and perception on savings and investments. My situation changed a lot but my financial management did not, which is a bad formula. I save and save but did not know that to be financially free is more than just saving. There key part that I forgot was budgetting.

Luckily, I have discovered a financial management product that aims to teach saving, tracking expenses, budgetting and investing. This product is the Chink+ DIY Money Kit. Zomato: Bringing Restaurants to the Digital Age

The Internet has revolutionized our way of life by making access to information easier. Now, every bit of information is literally just a click away. With the internet being an integral part of our everyday life, consumers increasingly go online to research for options before making decisions, like deciding where to eat.

With this fact in mind, food businesses are now taking advantage of what the web can do for them. Today, the food industry is investing time and effort in creating and sustaining their digital visibility to promote their services and goods online. And because these avenues have wider reach, promotion has never been easier, faster, and more effective.

According to Zomato, an online and mobile restaurant search and discovery service, having websites and social media accounts allows restaurants to create more buzz in the online space.

“If you are visible online, especially on Zomato, the searcher will eventually find you, out of a great number of restaurants within an area,” says Anton Ojeda, Zomato Philippines country manager. “By the time you’re shortlisted, it will just depend on the food preference of the searcher to choose you.”

Being visible in the digital space is like hitting two birds with one stone for the food industry. Ojeda adds that having digital presence does not only promote a brand, it also opens the communication line between restaurants and their patrons. “Being present in the digital space is not just about letting people know about your brand. It is about reaching out to them,” Ojeda said.

Through comments and feedbacks, restaurants are informed of how consumers find their services and food. Today, because of social media, consumers can freely say what they think about a particular restaurant, both positive and negative. Zomato found out that reviews by food bloggers as well as everyday diners play an important part when picking out a place to eat. “Filipinos have the habit of researching about a restaurant before actually eating there, and they rely on reviews they find in the Internet,” states Ojeda.

On the other hand, consumers can also give negative feedback through social media, which, as Ojeda says, restaurants take seriously. “In Zomato, restaurant owners can reply to bad reviews,” shares Ojeda. “You’d be surprised how seriously they take these reviews and how quickly they would take actions to address them. And even those with a lot of good reviews would reassess their operations after just one negative feedback from a user.”

Generally, having digital visibility plays an important part in the success of the food industry. It can either make or break the business. One just really needs to be wise enough to take advantage of its benefits, and use any negativity as a catalyst to make the venture grow.

Building a restaurant’s online presence and promoting brands in the digital age will be one of the topics in the first local Zomato Restaurant Summit to be held on May 19. The event, which has the theme Conquering the Digital Age, will bring together restaurateurs and foodies to talk about how restaurants can level up their games in the digital stage. Other topics include the evolution of Philippine restaurants and food tourism. For more information about the Summit, visit https://www.facebook.com/ZomatoSummit.

No More #YayaProblems with Manila Workshops' Basic Yaya Training

#YayaProblems is one of the many topics of conversations of mothers. Some stories are entertaining, funny, witty but some are really bothersome. I don't have a yaya for Enzo because my work and school allows me to still take care of him for most of the time, but whenever I have to go to school or work my sister-in-law takes care of him. Luckily, I have a very supportive sister-in-law and she understands how we want to take care of Enzo.

Our yayas are a great help to most families, I remember when we had Yayas or Kasambahays in the house because both my mom and dad are working. They play a huge role in our homes because they took care of my siblings and I, and they assist my parents in the household chores. Thus their work and roles as yayas are very much appreciated and recognized.

Their role is significant in the formative years of the children they take care of. They stand as the second parents to these children and so their values can be translated as well. Child rearing and household management is a hard job which entails different skills to be able to perform them successfully. As parents, it is also our duty to treat our Yayas and Kasambahay as people with potentials and to equip them with skills necessary for their jobs. By doing this, we make better partners in our goal of producing children with character and success.

With this Manila Workshops again has created an event that targets this need, so send your Yayas and Kasambahay to different training this year.

MomSPIRATION:Ms. Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan

Being a mom has its ups and downs. It can be tiring and stressful at times as it is a 24/7 job. With all the household managament, child rearing, individual growth, not to mention the hubby, motherhood can really be a handful. Though these are all true, if you would ask me or any Moms I know if they would exchange it for anything in the world, in chorus we'd probably say NO.

I am fairly new at this motherhood and parenting thing and there are times when I don't know what I am doing. There are moments when I feel frustrated and disappointed at myself for not doing things perfectly. But as they say, life is a journey and so is motherhood.

But today is not about myself as a mom but about someone who have shared a lot about her experiences as a Mom. She has become an inspiration to me which is why I decided to share with you my MomSPIRATIONS starting with:

During her birthday celebration at Nurture Spa and Wellness Village
Ms. Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, editor-in-chief of Celebrity Mom Philippines, a triathlete, healthy eater, a beautiful wife, and a mom of 5 wonderful children.

I have been given the chance to listen to her in two events by Celebrity Mom Philippines and I always discover new things about her and lessons from being a Mom.

At the Huggies #PantsUpPlaydate in Manila Polo Club

Why Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan is a MomSPIRATION?

1. Healthy Lifestyle and Discipline.
I have always wanted to start a healthy lifestyle for my child but I cannot seem to have the discipline to do it. I want to have the same determination and discipline she has when it comes to her body and health. She inspires me to live longer for my children.

2. A Calm and Relaxed Disposition
Whenever I hear her talk, I feel calm and assured of being a parent. She seems very relaxed and poise at all times even while she cracks a joke. Her calmness also is reflected to her parenting style which I think helps her children to stay calm as well. I realized that calmness is a parents' source of sanity and rationality. If parents confront conflicts like tantrums head on with their children it will definitely lead to hostility. The hostility will create more stress and damage to both parent and child.

3. A Passionate Blogger
Ms.Maricel's being a blogger also inspires me to share and keep a journal of my experiences as a mom, wife, and woman. I learned from her that documenting my new experiences is first and foremost for myself. I knew now that blogging should be used to share my own experiences that might be useful for other moms as well. She even said she's not a good writer before she started but look at where she is now, an editor-in-chief.

4. A Hands On Mom and Wife
I admire her being a hands on Mom to all her children and even to her husband. I don't know how she beautifully does it but the way she talks about her family says alot about how intimately close and attached she is to them. She gives tips and advices to almost all child concerns and issues I have like eating habits, separation anxiety, and all other things and these are mostly unavailable on books but are mostly learned thru experience.

5. A Beautiful Person Inside and Out
Who would have thought she is 45years old, right? Amidst all the work she does, she still managed to look beautiful and young. I aspire to be like her when I become her age and hopefully achieve as much as her.

There are alot of other things to admire and aspire about Ms. Maricel, but I am just blessed to have an encounter with her. She is truly a Mommy partner and friend any Mom would want. I even declared that she is my Mommy Peg because I am inspired by her.

If you want to be inspired by her as well follow her blog at www.mommymaricel.com or you can send your questions to her at Celebrity Mom Ph.

In anything we do, it is best to have an inspiration, so we can direct our efforts and time to being that inspiration, who knows maybe we too can inspire others. I am inspired by Mommy Maricel, who inspires you?:)

#TrappedForever: Breakout Manila's Room 13

Picture this:

You and your friends check in at an old motel after experiencing car troubles in the middle of nowhere and cannot call for help. But this place is giving you the creeps. Something does not feel right. Your group tries to leave the room but the door knob falls off - - and for some reason, you feel like it wasn't an accident. You try to force your way out but to no luck. You are trapped inside.

Can you find a different way out or will your friends be trapped forever?

This is Breakout Manila's Room 13 and me and my siblings were given a chance to play this last March. It actually reminds me of the movie Identity in 2003. It is one of my favorite psychology movie because of the twist and suspense story it has.The actors acting was also superb and the ending was truly surprising. I can watch it over and over again. So when I had to choose which room to try in Breakout Manila, I knew we had to try Room 13 out.

We failed to escape the room and was #TrappedForever, but we were almost there, just missed out on the last puzzle that could have brought us out of the room!

If you feel like trying the room here are some tips you might want to avoid:

1. Don't panic. The room and the ambiance makes you feel like it is a reality but remember it's just a game. My sister and I were stunned at first when the blindfolds were taken out, we could not move and we wasted about a minute jut staring at the room.

2. Don't give up the search. Clues are hidden, and they are hidden well. So to start solving the puzzles you have to find them first.

3. Don't over think. "Wag mag-analyze masyado, baka maparalyze". Which was something that happened to us, we thought it was that complicated which wasted a lot of our time.

4. Everything is possible. If you think it can be done then it probably can be done.

5. Don't think you can get out that easily. The room is full of more rooms so don't think that when you open a door is that it's the end of the puzzle because it is not unless you don't see the outside world. That was our mistake because we thought we already finished  but we did not or notice that there was another room.

So please avoid all these and you might be able to PLAN. SOLVE. ESCAPE Room 13!:)

4 Toys that Grow: Developmental Toys to Invest for your Tots

I remember having a conversation with a fellow Mommy blogger, Paulline Flores of www.milastolemyheart.com, about toys for our toddlers. Our kids are of the same age and it is also at the same phase when they start accumulating toys. As in my case, I have nieces and nephews who gives some of their toys to Enzo and there are also a lot of gifts from friends and relatives so we rarely buy.

After a year and 7 months, I have come to appreciate Enzo 's toys that grows with him. With that I mean that he can play with it from when he was still a baby up to now that he's already a toddler.

In choosing toys it is important to keep in mind what skills it tries to target. Here are some toys that can help assist your child's development:

Wooden Bead Wire Toys

This toy is for eye-hand coordination and which can eventually be used to introduce concepts in Math like counting and addition.

I got this for Daiso for only Php88.00, it is also of good quality for its price. If you want something bigger or branded www.ogalala.com has a lot of products you can choose from.

Sorting Toy

This was given as a gift and we have made Enzo use this when he was already 6mos. It introduces the concept of sorting and fitting things together. Shapes and colors can also be taught to toddlers using this toy.

Stacking Toys

This toy introduces the concept of piling things up and enhances eye-hand coordination. I love this toy because a lot of lessons can be taught which includes numbers, animals, transportation, color, etc. The boxes also serves another purpose of putting things inside which is also a skill toddlers need to learn about. Bought this on sale at Kids Craze Warehouse sale in QC. This cost only Php250.00. There are also other variations of this toy, one of which is Melissa and Doug that is available in all toy stores.

This one is a favorite and it plays a lot in Enzo's milestones. As a baby he used this as a mobile, as a toddler a walker and of course as a toy.

As a baby, he enjoyed looking at the colors and the lights while laying down. When he started sitting down, he was curious with using his hands on the revolving sun and the wind up circle. It also assisted him to walk when he was still practicing because it was lightweight and very stable. Now, he dances to the songs played, says "Hi" to the butterfly, caterpillar, and flower. This one really is a keeper.

My advice in choosing or buying toys is to its function for a longer period of time. This is practical to prevent accummulation of toys that children would not need in the future. It is also important to consider the skills it targets so atleast it can assist our child's development. Especially now that more and more children are into gadgets, it is a challenge for parents to introduce toys that are traditional. Though we would want these toys to help our child's development, we still need to always remind ourselves that every child is different. More than the toys that we buy for them, our love and attention is still the best for them.

Do you have other toys that grow? Share them with me, I'd love to hear from you!:)

How to Make Coleslaw with Jolly Real Mayo

I rarely do recipes on the blog because I am still in the process of learning. This past few months of staying in our own place has made me frustrated, excited, disappointed, and successful in terms of my cooking skills. I actually have learned about two more dishes to my very limited personal cook book. I know a lot of new moms/wives like me also struggle with what food to put on the table so today I will share with a very easy to do recipe of coleslaw that will make your fried dishes taste better.

Easy Coleslaw with Jolly Real Mayonnaise Recipe

Ingredients:
1 small head cabbage
1 small carrot

1/2 cup Jolly Real Mayonnaise
1 1/2 tbsp of white vinegar
2 tbsp of sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Pepper, depends if you want your coleslaw to be a little spicy
1/4 cup of Jolly Cow Fresh Milk

Instructions:
1. Rinse cabbage and carrots, slice them as finely as possible. (I tried!:))

3.Toss in the cabbage and the carrots. Chill before serving.

Super easy right? Our dinner was fried meatballs so the coleslaw made it more interesting to eat. The little boy also enjoyed his meatball and coleslaw. It's a great way to make our toddlers eat their veggies too. Also if you love KFC coleslaw, well it taste a little similar to it too!:)

Raising a Reader: Beginner Books for Toddlers

As a booklover myself I intend to consciously raise my son to become a reader. I want him to have a love for books anf of discovering the world through reading. I got my love for books for my Mom as well, growing up I saw her always with a book at home. She spent countless hours reading and collecting books from her favorite authors. Thru her I also started my own collections from fairy tales, horror, suspense to young adult books. She supported my love for reading and I thank her for that.

Now that we are in a digital age, children are confronted with gadgets, internet, and mass media. It seems its easier to learn from it but for me it hinders creativity and imagination. This is the reason I see to it that little Enzo has a lot of time spent on books.

A growing library of Enzo
In choosing books for toddlers, it is important to consider if it is age appropriate. Toddlers have short attention span so a book for beginners need to be short in pages and in content.

Beginning Beginner Books
Look for that sign with Dr. Seuss
Has short texts and colorful illustrations
The B Book
Bought these books at Chapter Pages in Trinoma for Php65.00 each. Dr. Seuss books are best for beginner readers and these are really a steal.

Baby Einsteins books are best for toddlers as well. Just make sure to check the age target of the books so you know if it is appropriate for your tots. You can introduce a lot of concepts using this book like counting, colors, animals and a lot more.

A favorite bedtime story since Enzo was a baby, Guess How Much I Love You is a great story and has all the feels for a parent-child relationshio. This was a gift from Enzo's godmother bought from Fully Booked.

A Use-Your-Words Feeling Book helps little children to identify and express their feelings. It builds emotional language skills to enhance children's understanding of their own and others' feelings. These books were also gifts from relatives and friends and bought from National Bookstore.

When choosing books for toddlers always consider the age appropriation, colorful and easy to understand illustration, and composition of the book itself. It is also best to bring them to the bookstore so they can choose and find their interest.

Also remember that parenting is role modeling. They will be a reader if they see that their parents love it as well.

What's your latest storybook for you child at the moment?
