Health Junkie PH Bootcamp at Playground 2.0

Last June 20, I got the chance to join Health Junkie PH bootcamp and new site launch at Playground 2.0. It was a great day fo workout plus I got to also meet the founder of Health Junkie PH, Tonette Nicolas, and the other contributors like Rejj, Ives, and Monabelle. I got pretty excited about the event too cause I wanted to try Flow Yoga, and Zumba, and listen to the Nutrition Talk.

Going to Playground 2.0 was really easy. From Vito Cruz Taft, I rode the Dominga jeep going to Buendia, (less traffic on that route); ride the bus going to Pasong Tamo, and jeep going to MRT. I asked the driver to drop me off at Molave Bldg, and voila I was at Playground already.

I arrived around 1:00 pm and the group was still on break. It was a photo opportunity for me as I was not around during the morning session. 

The reception is what will welcome you in the playground. The sides are wide and clear spaces suitable for different fitness trainigs available in the venue. One side was for Crossfit, while the other is for Yoga and Zumba. 

While waiting, my friend Iris and I took some before photos of ourselves. 

We were expecting to try out Flow Yogas what was suggested in the schedule, but found our we were doing Circuit Training. Got pretty nervous as the coach explain the routines. 

The circuit training had ten stations, with each station having 30seconds alotment. You are free to do the workouts in your own pace and make as much reps as you can in 30 seconds. We were asked to finish four sets that lasted for about 12 minutes for the entire program. It was the longest 12 minutes of my life, and it had all my muscles working at the same time. Although some of the workouts were difficult for a newbie like me, I felt successful being able to finish the entire program. It was endorphins overload and I loved it. 

Our post circfit look with our new favorite booster drink, Vitwater. I loved the grape flavor because it is not too sweet but it rehydrates me well. 

Afterwards, stretching was done with Tonette and a nutrition talk followed shortly. 

The talk was given by Ms. Lyka Pauline Bugtong RnD. She shared how important wise eating is in having a healthy body. Emphasizing on recognizing own personal body, food mindset, and eating perception, she pointed out that each person has their own eating journey which noone can dictate. What she highlighted on is on a person's decision of what to intake and how to know whih pnes are good or bad for the health. It was really insightful for me as I also learned how to read nutritional labels, Next step though is to practice it. 

Shortly after, the Zumba classes started, and I had the funniest, most energetic, sweat inducing Zumba class ever. Well, technically, it was my first. The Zumba instructors, were really great and all of them spreads a joyful and intense vibe to everyone. I was literally dancing as if no one was watching. I guess I burned all the calories I ate for the week. I never knew Zumba could be that fun and exciting. 

That ended the day, and I could not be any more proud of myself for the accomplishments I did. Though I got aorr muscles after, the long term effects of it are all worthwhile. Now I cannot wait dor my next workout and I plan to enroll in a zumba class too!;)

7 Places to Learn History in Manila

Just recently my mommy blogger friends and I went to Museo Pambata for our playdate. Will share more details about that on my next post, so please keep on reading my blog. ;) 

Anyway, I have been wanting to write about places to visit here in Manila to learn history and at the same time kid friendly too. I don't know why I couldnt get myself to write but like a message from the universe I saw this in Museo Pambata: 

This is just great! Excellent, even! My family and I now have our checklist to visit here in Manila. We've been living here for more than a year and all we can bring Enzo to is the near malls around the vicinity. Gets a little boring now, especially as Enzo's growing up already. 

1. Museo Pambata 

The first hands-on discovery for children in the Philippines. With interactive exhibists on history, culture, the environment, science, health, and career options as well as special shows and programs, it is the ideal place for alternative learnig, family fun and wholesome environment.

FREE for Manila residents with ID 

Php150 for adults

Php120 for children 

2. Manila Zoo 

Manila Zoo is situated in Quirino Avenue Adriatico Street Malate Manila, home to a variety of animals seen here in the country. One of the controversial animals here is Maali, a 40 year old elephant. Some animal activits fight to free Maali into its natural habitat. Manila Zoo although stands firm to keep Maali in their care.

3. Luneta 

Luneta is home to Jose Rizal's statue and a must see place for every Filipino and tourists as well. Luneta Park offers a lot of activities fit for all members of the family. It has alot of other places to see within it like the butterfly garden, Chinese garden etc. There are free events and activities that happen there that everyone can enjoy. 

4. Intramuros

From the story of Noli Me Tangere, Anak ng Pasig songs, and geandest weddings in Manila Cathedral, Intramuros is a repository of history and stories. It has the nicest scenic views, scrumptous streetfood and unique restos. Concerts also happens in this four walled streets. 

5. Quiapo Church

Quiapo church is known for the Miraculous Black Nazarene. Devotees pray religiously in the Black Nazarene as it is believe to favor their prayers and desires. The Feast of the Black Nazarene is also one of the grandest as devotees come together to pay tribute to him. My father is a devotee and I remember him joining the crowd and walking barefoot. 

6. National Museum Planetarium

National Museum Planetarium is a projet of former First Lady Imelda Marcos in 1975. Its main function is to disseminate astronomical information through shows, lectures, and galleries. At the moment, Planetarium shows are closed to public but their galleries are free for all visitors. 

7. Malacanang Palace

Malacanang Palace is one of the tourist spots in Manila where the president resides. You can walk from San Miguel ave and see the walls of the palace. 

Out of all the seven places, my family and I have been to only two of it. What I love about lists is that I always have a new place to go and I don't have to think too much!;) Will post about our Museo Pambata and Manila Zoo trips next time.

Health Junkie PH:Live Longer, Stronger Together

Well if you've been following me on my blog and other social media accounts, you'd probably know that I am now a proud member and contributor of Health Junkie PH. I could not have been happier with this blogging milestone and I think I just became a Health Junkie, literally.

I am a sporty kinda girl, my childhood days were spent playing sports like swimming, ballet, taekwondo, and just about anything I can think of. Even when I started college and working I made it a point to maintain a healthy and active body. The problem with me though is consistency and motivation.

I wasnt comfortable working out alone and I often just give up when I feel my body's sores and aches. I always had excuses like "Running isn't my thing" or "I don't like being in a gym, it's boring", or "I don't have the time cause I'm a mom" just so I would not work out. It was only when I felt tired and frustrated chasing my toddler did I realize that working out is not just about getting abs and having toned muscles, it really is more than that. 

  We started our CCP jogging routine as a family.

I already said this in my previous fitness posts that I like to LIVE LONGER for my child and family, and working out is my only option. It was coincidental with this realization that free dance classes were offered in school which suited my sched. A week after our dance class I got invited to be part of Health Junkie PH and I was elated. I knew it would require work but I was more excited to be with people who share the same interest on health, beauty, fitness and wellness. I am glad to have found people who inspires me to achieve my best self and to enjoy sweating out. I am inspired by their journey to fitness and of course their toned bodies.

I am just grateful to be with a group who will help me achieve my goal of living longer and teaching my child the value of healthy and active lifestyle.

Bulacan Properties: Venezia Homes

Here's another installment of my house hunting in Bulacan, but now I'll share with you a real estate property in Sta. Maria, Bulacan that you too can consider buying.

Like what I recently wrote on my previous post on What my Mom said! Tips to consider in buying a house, I realized that the major factor that makes me not want to leave Manila is the transportation. If only I had work in Bulacan or if only commuting was easy and accrssible, I would want to live there too. 

Today's post will be about accessibility and transportation. For most urban dwellers, they would think that Bulacan is such a far away province, but with Venezia Townhomes, coming home can be easy breezy. 

Venezia Townhomes is situated in Brgy. San Vicente, Sta Maria Bulacan. Accessibility via Sta Maria is through Tungkong Mangga road, Gov. Halili Road, Quirinio Highway. Way of transportation is bus or jeepney. There is a bus terminal in SM North that will take you to Sta maria, Bulacan.

Starting a BUDGET Friendly Dr. Seuss' Book Collection

Today I'll be sharing with you our budget friendly Dr. Seuss' book collection. I only got interested in Dr. Seuss after using it in one of my topics in class on finding one's true self. Afterwards I got to watch Cat in the Hat and Horton Hears a Who, both of which got me hooked to it more.

Now being a mom, I discovered that it is a good source of beginner literacy for children. I could not buy at first because I found it too expensive. Amount ranging from 300 to maybe about php1000. Great thing that Enzo was given by her godmother his first ever Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat. Since then our library grew and have 12 books at the moment. Don't get shocked as I did not buy it in its regular price. (I am kuripot like that!;)) 

I discovered bookstores that sell second hand and preloved Dr Seuss books for a really really low price. About 65 to 150 per book, excited to find out where I buy it? Before that here's out collection.

I got all these in a cheaper price than in popular bookstores. The lowest book I got is at Php65 while the most expensive is at Php135.

I got these books from Book Sale and Chapter and Pages. There are more books in Chapter and Pages and they are usually in kiosk in malls. I have been to their branches in Trinoma and Market Market. Market market has a lot of children's books with about 2-3 rows of Dr. Seuss collection. I found another branch that has an actual store in Wlatermart Pasay Road, though their collection is limited. Book sale is a lot more popular and I think they have more branches. I have been to alot of Book Sale branches in the malls but I love the one in Pedro Gil.

Just remember, that when buying second hand or preloved books, it is a MUST to check it meticiuluously as there are some that has defects. Notice the differences of the prices which is an indicator of the books defects. In example, the Are you my Mother? book costs only Php85.00. I was too excited to buy the books that I was not able to notice a tear on the page. 

The book If I ran the Rainforest, alao has a slight defect but does not really matter wih me. It has a sticker name from its previous owner. Costs only Php135.

So remember Mommies and friends, we don't always have to spend much to bring joy to our children. We can still stay on budget and get our money's worth. Just a word of caution on buying second hand or preloved books, that it is like a treasure hunt. It needs patience and a lot of searching, but getting the book you like will definitely be rewarding.
