July Manila Workshops: From Womb to Teenage years

It's been awhile since I posted about Manila Workshops event and activities, and I truly apologize for that. I'm sure you miss having updates on their workshops, especially that their events are really practical, informative, and helpful to everyone. It is such a nice feeling knowing that a group of private individuals have families, like us and our needs in mind, and that their main objective is to educate and empower each individual.

With that, I am sharing with you this month of July's Manila Workshops that I entitled from Womb to Teenage Years. I got pretty excited learning about their upcoming workshops as it directly answers different questions or concerns that we have as parents, or as moms to our children. Manila Workshops has indeed created events that will guide us through this journey.

For Expecting Parents:
Pregnancy and giving birth can be both exciting and confusing at the same time. I remembered my days of panic and confusion with my first born and getting all the help we can get in this stage is important. But what better way to prepare but to learn ahead of time, before the baby is even born.
Preparing for Baby's Birth Day on July 25, 2015 1-5pm at The Parenting Emporium, QC

After the baby is born, some would prefer to have a yaya to help with the home making or assist in child rearing. For working moms, a yaya is necessary. So to prevent #YayaProblems, why not send your Yayas to training and equip them with practical skills to help them fulfill their jobs better.
Basic Yaya Training is a series of sessions from care, basic first aid, and money management.
Venue: Mothercare Podium
Time:1:00-5:00

Now as time flies really fast, we'll be surprised how our children have become teenagers already. Being teenagers before, parents should recognize possible struggles and issues of teenagers and help them overcome these. Luckily, Manila Workshops have designed a series of sessions that could promote character development in teenagers and help them Win in Life.

Sessions include:
Developing your Person
Expressing Yourself
balancing Lofe
Becoming Culturally Sensitive

Learning fee is Php1000 per person.
Venue: BGC

Whatever stage or phase in parenting you are, there is help always avaialable for you. Check out these workhops and hoose what best fits you!;)

Manila Workshops: The Art of Storytelling by Kuya Bodjie

Are you one of those kids who watched Batibot in the 90's? If you were, who or what was your favorite segment or "kuya" or "ate" there? Well, mine's Kuya Bodjie and I remember anticipating his storytime during the show.  It was two or three years ago that I learned that he actually does Storytelling workshops and I was so eager to go. For several years now I have yet to have joined his workshop. Sadly, I always have other commitments in his scheduled workshop. So sad. But I know soon I'll be able to join one too.

You may wonder why I love him so, well, aside from the Batibot show, I also got to watch him in his guesting in The Ryzza Mae Show. He told a story to Ryzza about a Lion and she was that scared just by the story told by Kuya Bodjie. I know he is THAT GOOD and I bet I'll learn a lot from him which I can share with my toddler, Enzo. It is also because as I am pursuing my career in Preschool Teaching, learning from the best storyteller will really benefit me.

But anyway, enough of my sadness, I am positive that I'll be in his workshop soon too. Great news for you because Kuya Bodjie will have his workshop this Friday care of Manila Workshops.

About the Speaker: (From Manila Workshops official site)
Luisito Pascua attended acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York.  He started working for his BFA degree at the University of Southern California which he eventually obtained from New York University in 1978.  At NYU, he played the title role in Moliere’s “The Bourgeois Gentleman”.  To date, he has appeared in over 100 productions with the Philippines’ top theatre companies.  Filipino children perhaps know him best as “Kuya Bodjie” in the TV shows “Batibot”, “Bulilit”, and “Sige, Sali Ka Na!”, and currently as “Tito Luis” in ABS-CBN Foundation’s “Epol-Apple”.  He is a consistent nominee for Star Awards’ Best Children’s Show Host, which he has already won twice.  He helped conceptualize and produce “Bulilit” (1990 Catholic Mass Media Awards Best Children’s Show) and “Sige, Sali Ka Na!”.  He is also a freelance actor for film, TV, radio, and commercials and documentaries, directs, writes, has collaborated with young filmmakers in developing their award-winning short films and has been all over the Philippines as a popular storyteller to children of all ages.  He has designed curricula and/or given classes to numerous groups in the Philippines.  He is the founding president of Alitaptap Storytellers Philippines at the Museo Pambata and used to sit as a Sectoral Representative for Storytellers at the Philippine Board on Books for Young People

No More #YayaProblems with Manila Workshops' Basic Yaya Training

#YayaProblems is one of the many topics of conversations of mothers. Some stories are entertaining, funny, witty but some are really bothersome. I don't have a yaya for Enzo because my work and school allows me to still take care of him for most of the time, but whenever I have to go to school or work my sister-in-law takes care of him. Luckily, I have a very supportive sister-in-law and she understands how we want to take care of Enzo.

Our yayas are a great help to most families, I remember when we had Yayas or Kasambahays in the house because both my mom and dad are working. They play a huge role in our homes because they took care of my siblings and I, and they assist my parents in the household chores. Thus their work and roles as yayas are very much appreciated and recognized.

Their role is significant in the formative years of the children they take care of. They stand as the second parents to these children and so their values can be translated as well. Child rearing and household management is a hard job which entails different skills to be able to perform them successfully. As parents, it is also our duty to treat our Yayas and Kasambahay as people with potentials and to equip them with skills necessary for their jobs. By doing this, we make better partners in our goal of producing children with character and success.

With this Manila Workshops again has created an event that targets this need, so send your Yayas and Kasambahay to different training this year.

TMA's Parents Conference: Set Them Up for Success

As our little ones transition from infancy to toddler years, the growth of their brains is at a fast rate. It means that they absorb very well and could learn as much as they are taught. Although this is their nature, it is but important that they get the right stimulation in order to maximize this time in their life.

Given that, parents and caregivers have the biggest role in the development of children. It is fact that the family is the first classroom of a child. It is where the child learns basic concepts, values, and discipline that would be useful when they socialize with other people.

As the home is where a child learns first and foremost, the concept of homeschooling is prevalent. Many parents have seen the significance and advantage of homeschooling.

Admittedly, I have a lot to learn about Homeschooling. Although I was raised and educated in traditional school I am very interested in understanding what homeschooling and its difference from traditional school.

Fortunately, TMA will hold their 2015 Parents Conference entitled "Set Them Up For Success." This event is set to enlighten and inspire parents to raise their children to become happy, responsible, productive adults and leaders "wherever they are planted." It will run for a whole day and will consist of keynote topics like "Set Them Up for Success" and "Catching your Child's God-given Bents for Success". Keynote speakers are Edric Mendoza and Jayson Lo.

Mr. Edric Mendoza is a homeschooling father of five, the president of the Homeschoolers Association of the Philippine Islands and lead anchor of ANC's On the Money. Mr. Jayson Lo is a known inspirational speaker in the country and is the author of Younique:Understanding Others by Understanding You, a book about how personality styles help identify one's strengths and weaknesses.

Aside from keynote talks, the conference will also feature workshops on character education, multi-level homeschooling, homeschooling through high school, adjusting teaching strategies for effecting learning, and celebrating dads who homeschool. Participants may also opt to attend a Q&A forum where TMA Homeschool will answer questions about homeschooling in the Philippines. Speakers for these sessions are seasoned homeschoolers Donna Simpao, Millona Barraca, Bles de Guzman, Joy Mendoza, and Dennis Sy. Participants may choose one track for each talk happening simultaneously.

Good news right? But here's something even better. If you would like to attend this event happening on March 12, 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center, Mandaluyong City, you can have a chance to get one FREE slot from TMA, Manila Workshops, and the Learning Basket

Manila Workshops: Toddler Discipline and Potty Training

A perk of being a mom is looking forward to new milestones for our children. Among the many perks of motherhood, I find this one of the best things I have ever experienced. Everyday is a surprise as babies learn new things and does new tricks. Now that Enzo is nearing his toddler years, he celebrated his 1 year and 6th month last Saturday, I am looking forward to bigger and challenging milestones for him. One of which is potty training. I learned from my other nephews and nieces that this milestone can be pretty tedious not to mention messy and stinky and.... (haha!) but such a rewarding feeling for Enzo and us his parents. Atleast we don't have to bring diapers anymore and that means a slash off our expenses, right?:)

Luckily, Manila Workshops came up with yet another great seminar for us parents to start training our toddlers. They even match the Potty Training seminar with Toddler Discipline which is of utmost importance for us parents to teach our little ones at an early age.

Toddler Discipline skills will come in handy now that our little ones are learning independence, curiosity, and a sense of adventure. Enzo has a handful of those characteristics and at times he throws in his tantrums and hits on us. It can be very difficult at times, and I would often find myself thinking of ways on how I could lessen his temper whenever we try to discipline him.

If you parents out there feel the same, then this workshop is right for all of us! To register just go to http://manilaworkshops.com/events/toddler-discipline-and-potty-training and please don't forget to key in my referral code: TYJ PPTD1

Event Date: March 7, 2104
Time: 1:30-5:00PM
Venue: Insular Life Building Multipurpose Hall, 12th Floor
Regular Rate: Php350
Couple Rate: Php600

Our speaker for the Toddler Discipline and Potty Training workshop is Dr. Teresa Lilia Ayaso-Cabusora.  Dr. Cabusora is a Child Development and Early Childhood Education Specialist.  She is a former faculty member of the Department of Family Life and Child Development of the University of the Philippines in Diliman.  She is the former Faculty-In-Charge of the UP-Diliman Child Development Center and is currently the Owner-Directress of the Family Partner Child Learning House.

This is the first part of the Parenting Pals series and is co-presented by Insular.

Hope to see you there!:)

Manila Workshops: Make Your Own Dream Book Workshop

I’m a pen and paper type of person. Someone who loves to doodle using colored gel pens, compose unpublished songs and poems, jot down daily tasks, reminders and plan everything ahead on paper. But sometimes, ready-made planners or journals that are readily available lessens our freedom to design our own and express our thoughts by being creative.
That’s why Memory Crafters and CraftCreate thought of having a meaningful workshop entitled Make Your Own Dream Book. A DIY kind of journal wherein you can pick a fabric to cover your dream book and prettify by filling it up with your lifelong goals and dreams. In that way, you’ll always remember all the things you’ve had from the past. May it be adding a daily photo, quotes, scribbles or treat it as your diary. It’s even more special because you made it with the hopes of your dreams to be fulfilled.
With this, we would like to invite you to be part of our first workshop this year! Make Your Own Dream Bookwill be the first workshop for the whole-day event on February 28, 2015 at Scarsdale S&R Shaw, 9:00 am – 12:00 nn. Workshop kits, modules and light snacks will be served!

About the Speaker

Catherine Santos is a Mass Communications major in Film and Audio Visual Arts in UP Diliman. She worked in a video production house then in a graphic design company. In between, Katsy and her mom had a homebased business where they make flower arrangements using paper, dried leaves and twigs and they supply these to specialty shops and exporter. After that stint, she held a marketing and merchandising hob for SAFFY, an NGO that promotes fair-traded handicrafts.
She missed the vibe of having her own business. So, she ventured on her own again and decided to put up a a new business named CraftCreate, a designing and trading handcrafted home décor and supplying stores that cater to tourists, expats and balikbayans. She also started Handmade Manila to make an outlet for her projects that don’t quite fit in to the product line of CraftCreate. It also serves as an outlet for some crafter friends who want to sell their crafts and products. She also join bazaars and have been a regular seller in the bazaar circut since 2004.

MANILA WORKSHOPS: Speed Networking Brunch

Hi there everyone! I have good news for all of you, every month I will share with you upcoming events from Manila Workshops. If you've been reading my blog you probably know that I have been to some of their workshops and I promote them here occassionally.

For those who don't have any idea about them yet, here's a quick intro:

Manila Workshops was founded by Ginger Palma - Arboleda in 2012. It's aim is to provide a venue for people to continuously learn and aspire for their entreprenuerial  or personal goals in life. They provide different workdshops and seminars that would help enhance knowlede in different areas like creativity, business and personal development.
I have been to three workshops of Manila Workshop and they never fail to give me more knowledge in areas I am interested in. Thanks to them I had a successful party for my son's first birthday when I attended the "How to make your own Kiddie Party".

Here are the links to my experience and learnings from the workshop:

Next workshop I attended was through Mommy Bloggers Philippines and it was the Ogalala System in Play. Learned a bunch from this and how I could make play a learning moment for little Enzo.

I also had the chance to attend Baby Signs but unfortunately got sick during the event that I had to leave early. I was so disappointed but I had to prioritize my health. The organizers still let me take home my freebies though I did not finish it. Thank you so much, Manila Workshops.
So, if you believe that learning does not end in the classroom or if you just love learning, Manila Workshops might just be the right partner for you. Expect me to flood you with their events and hopefully to see you in one of their events!:)

Here's one event for you writers, bloggers, business owners who would like to expand their networks:

EVENT: Ogalala System in Play Child Development Workshop

As a mom, I like my 10 month old son to learn something new in everything that he does. I love to see him grow and development while having fun at the same time. As a teacher, (although I teach college students) I want to be able to teach him to develop a love for learning. I want him to enjoy the wonders of the world and to be always curious about the things around him Thus, I believe play is an essential part of his learning  Although it sounds easy, I find it challenging to find ways where he can play and learn at the same time. I don't have an idea of what play or toys can trigger his imagination, creativity, and curiosity which can help him learn. There are also studies that say that different learners, learn differently and so one method may work for one child but not for everyone. Thus it is important for me as a parent to adapt to the environment of my child and understand him as a unique learner.

This is exactly what Ogalala System in Play addresses. As Ms. Mae Yao Co Say, the genius behind Ogalala and a mom herself say, "Mothers have intangible goals. I want my children to be happy and fulfilled - and I'm sure it's what other mothers want for their child, too. The role of Ogalala is to make these goals tangible. the brand aims to help raise a warm, light-hearted, curious and global child." The wide range of Ogalala toys encourage fun and enjoyable learning while giving the family time to bond as well. It will give the parents more opportunity to get to know their children as learners and be able to provide the best way to help them learn.

PART 1.2 Make your own Kiddie Party by Manila Workshops

Okay, so I already shared with you the first part of the workshop I attended last March 22, at Insular Life building Makati. You may read more about it here: Part I.Make your own Kiddie Party

The third and fourth part of the workshop was very much related. Part IV was entitled "Let's go to your favorite local grocery and bookstore" and Part V was a group activity.

The speakers talked about how paying a visit to the grocery and the bookstore can be very helpful in designing parties. All you need is the imagination and creativity to make it fit your theme. They shared different examples such as loofahs being a butterfly designs and paper straws as pick-up-sticks in a party. They also had a bunch of stuff with them that they bought from the grocery and bookstores as sample. Then we had a group activity where we were to create our own party centerpiece with the stuff we have. The first part was to look into the materials available. There were different things such as pad papers, stickers, vases, bedsheets, etc. Then we had to go back to our group and conceptualize a design. Our group thought of doing a Little Miss Sunshine theme because we saw colorful materials that we can use. After conceptualizing we were given about 2 minutes to get our materials and fifteen minutes to do our concept.

The Little Miss Sunshine Group
We used gold and red bedsheets, yellow and blue vases, paper straws,
candies, lollipops, flower curtains, colored pens and tags.

The second group created a Pajama party where they designed under the table. It was a unique idea because it looked like the kids had their own special nook inside. They also provided activities inside for the kids.
Photo

The third group won the activity which is a travel themed centerpiece. It was well thought out and their designs were fully detailed. They made use of the stickers as decors and used scrapbook papers as placemats. No wonder they won the activity.

The last group had a Morning after honeymoon theme. It was very minimal in design but what caught the speakers attention were their DIYs. They made flower cut outs out of the materials and covered the ballpens with tape. It was a unique design. They also won second place.

The last part of the workshop was the speakers sharing their suppliers to us. They shared that they only had six suppliers but these are the ones that they have tried and tested. Two of the six ones were even at Divisoria. It was such a breathe of fresh air knowing that I could really find good stuff in Divisoria because it means that its less expensive and "pwedeng tumawad".

The stores they shared were:

Will try to provide more posts about this suppliers as soon as I finished this three-part blogpost.:)

Hope you had a good read!:)
