Crayola: Creating Art for Every Age

Art is an instant fun for every child. It widens a child's imagination and creativity with every stroke of colors. I remember my childhood time spent on coloring and using Crayola products. My mom used to buy me coloring books and  a box of Crayola made it even more exciting.

Now that my little baby is growing into a very curious learner, I started introducing him to crayons at 18months. Although he could not grip the crayons just yet, I can see his excitement everytime I'll tell him it is coloring time.

Luckily for him, we got Crayola's My First Washable Markers at an Ogalala event, so he has new tools to explore again.

Last Tuesday, I decided to let him tey hia new tools and he had countless hours of enjoyment using it.

The size of the markers is just right to teach toddlers how to grip a pen. It is very easy to hold but its barrel like shape makes it hard to roll so it stays on the table. The broad nib is also great in creating big, bold marks which toddlers can easily recognize. Watching Enzo use it is amazing as he also learns fine motor skills of putting and removing the cap of the markers.

To start using the markers, press the marker tip down against paper until the inkbegins to flow. During use, continue to press tip down as needed to release ink.
And did I say its washable? Now we moms son't need to worry that much right? Our kids can unleash their Picasso talent and draw their lives away in any age!;)

Ogalala Playtime: Baby Einstein's Splash and Giggle Bath Book

Bath time is something Enzo looks forward to everyday. He loves the water that much that everytime we tell him it's "Ligo Time" he'd happily agree and excitedly walks to the bathroom.

And because he enjoys his bath time, the hubby and I make sure that it also becomes a learning experience for him. Thankfully, after attending Ogalala's Child Development Workshop, we have another lesson to teach little Enzo.

Let me share with you Baby Einstein's Water, Water, Everywhere: A Splash and Giggle Bath Book.

Information and Ideas for parents:
Turn a rainy day into a day of discovery. Take a walk with your child on a rainy day and find a puddle. Place a stick in the center of the puddle to see how much water it has collected.

Help your child experience the effects of rain through the sense of touch. Durin your rainy-day ealk, look and touch the nearby trees and branches. Shake some branches and show your child what happens to the rain that has collected on the leaves.

Enzo and I have not done the suggested activities yet but I am planning to do it soon or whenever I think he'll be ready to walk in the rain. In the meantime, here's how we used the book.

So what we did was to tell the story after he took a bath and let him stay in the water for a while. While reading the book I asked him about the animals in the photo and what sounds do they make.

On the first page he knew the words bird, ball, and flower. We are now introducing him to a new animal, Octopus.

The last page is his favorite as he can relate to the photo of the octopus taking a bath. He already knows how to wash his head and body while using the water.

Raves about the book:
The material is safe. It does not smell anything like plastic. It is made of Polyutherane foam inside and PVC outside. I think it is the same material used in floaters for kids.

Colorful illustration. Colors used are bright and easy for parents to teach. The colors and drawings add excitement to the book.

The concept about water introduces the concept of nature which can open up a lot of topics for parents to teach their children.

Durable and stain resistant. It easily dries up after bath time and soft to bring even before bedtime.

Introduces rhyme ans rhtyhm at the same time develop hand and eye coordination. It also enhances emerent literacy and love for books.

A book to bring in the bath is such an amazing idea. It was something I haven't encountered before and have never been allowed to do when I was a child. Lucky Enzo!;)

So, we both enjoy the boy in or outside the water but it definitely made bath time wven more exciting for Enzo. Thank you Baby Einstein and Ogalala World!;)

Ogalala: Putting every child learner in Mind

If you have been reading my blog, (hopefully you are) you might have read about a workshop our family attended last July 2014 about Ogalala:System in Play. Ever since that workshop, I have been a fan of their concept and hubby an I have been applying it to Enzo.

Fortunately, last Tuesday, we were again invited to their workshop on Child Development. I could not pass on the opportunity as you know I am taking my masters in Family Life and Child Development so this is a great help for me. Plus I get to learn more ways on how to help Enzo learn and develop.

Ogalala Shop in Shangrila is a WONDERFUL WORLD OF WHY NOT!!:)

Ogalala is a system in play where children are believed to be naturally warm, light-hearted and curious. It also keep in mind the principle of child development which is Every Child is Different. Thus it is important that parents understand their children and recognize the kind of learner that they are.

This becomes a struggle for some as parents become busier and children have become more digital having ipads, tablets, etc in close proximity to them. That is where Ogalala System in Play comes in. It tries to bridge the gap between parents being busy but wanting their children to develop and kids eager to learn but are not stimulated.

Ogalala then offers a variety of products that will address different types of child learner. The brands that they carry are consistent with the concept's principle of children learning through play.

Before I share with you the amazing products they have, it is more important that you know and understand your child's learning style. This way you can help your child to learn the best way they can.

Ask yourself this: What kind of learner is my child?

1. Auditory - A learner who absorbs lessons well through repetition or through constant conversations. They are usuall those who loves to ask questions and who enjoys talking to people. They learn best using their sense of hearing.

2. Visual - A visual learner absorbs more of the lessons when they can see it. It means through illustrations, graphs, charts, and diagrams. Children who are visual learners need to be able to imagine or have a clear vision of the lesson for better understanding.

3. Tactile or Kinesthetic - A tactile learner understands concepts better through movements and mobility. Using their body parts makes learning more effective and enjoyable for them.

Knowing the kind of learner your child is can help you:
1. Know HOW your child takes information
2. Know how you can BEST teach your hild
3. SELECT the appropriate materials for your child
4. Make learning ENJOYABLE for your child.

Recognizing your child's learning style can also reduce disappointment on your part as parents whenever children don't understand the lesson. Moreso, it prevents children of feeling frustrated and sad about not pleasing you as their parents. Fortunately, Ogalala System in Play has the tools to help all children learner to develop.

These are the brands that they carry.

Sharing some of Enzo's developmental toys that have helped him talk and even walk. Will share those soon in another post!

Baby Einstein books to introduce numbers and counting. The Mirror Me helps in understanding parts of the face and object permanence.

Baby Einstein Touch and Feel Discovery Cards. This teaches different textures, animals and science.

Melissa and Doug Friendly Fish Grasping Toy encourages the child to discover movements, stimulates visual tracking skills, and fosters fine motor and hand eye coordination.

Crayola has been enhancing and encouraging children's creativity and imagination. Now they have more products that encourages play and learn at the same time. Best of all is that they are toxic free!;)

The point of all these is that as parents we want what is best for our children. In order to give what is best we have to get to know them first and recognize their unique potentials. From there we can enhance and encourage them more by stimulating them in the best way. Ogalala is a partner we can trust in this journey from 0 months up.
